not working, today

i am in just too good a mood. had a follow-up checkup at the endocrinologist's this am. doing MUCH better. have lost 7 pounds and dropped my daily blood glucose levels by 60 points over the last two months. he actually gave me applause!

so, at the moment, i am celebrating with a little coffee at a friend's house. not working. not even feeling guilty, either.

tomorrow is another grandboy duty day. so i won't be doing much on 'puters tomorrow, either. but FRIDAY! look out monstro! i've got to finish up, as there are matters pressing.

for instance:
tomorrow is payday. i haven't even checked banking for the past week. i'm sure there are bills due, etc.
this weekend is the festival of arts at the culture center. i haven't updated arlan's website to show the playbill.
i really need to update my own site, as well.

and, i'm getting that creative bug, again. in an entirely new direction. for some reason, i really would like to try writing. more than "blogging" - i'd like to write some reviews, or even a (gasp) story! this is a really scary thought for me. could i possibly be capable of doing something like that?

maybe i'll start by doing some new drawings. then write about them. that would be a lot of fun, i think.

this is going to take more time

actually, it's not that bad. but i forgot that i've got grandboy duty for the next two weeks!

got the macromedia apps installed and ran into issues with serial numbers again. where did i put that last disc? this is really getting to be an issue. a busy office is hard to manage. worse still when you bring in so many non-essential activites. first priority this month (june) is to "de-clutter"!

once i've completed that task, there will be room for the mac pro. maybe i can bypass all these reg numbers completely in switching.

installing adobe products

i really don't want to upgrade on the PC. but it may end up going that way. if it does, i could end up having to buy a full edition for the mac. very painful! lots of dollars! the possibility that i could get a break on the creative suite for the mac if i don't upgrade on the PC is good. i'd like to keep it that way.

right off, i ran into issues. forgot that i needed to have a previous edition installed to install acrobat 7.0. scrambled to find the 6.0 disc, which, of course had to verify the 5.0 disc. one of these days, i'm going to have to succumb to buying the full edition instead of the upgrades. i'm just cheap!

while searching for these prior discs, i ran into a copy of photoshop elements 4.0. handy - i can install that in parallels on the macbook! nice. i do looove working with the macbook.

installing illustrator CS2, now. things seem to be running a little more smoothly.
& now for Photoshop CS2. this installer objected to a previous copy existing in the original folder. simple fix - remove the folder.

going to reboot and check all three for activation & updates.and again, and again, and again... ad infinitum. of course all the updates require permissions.

plusdeck

well, some progress, i think. i still can't hear anything when i play a cassette. monstro does, however. cassettes can be played and the sound converted to mp3 (or whatever). so, now, all i have to do is figure out how to get "audio" output as well. i'm sure it's probably some little setting i've neglected.

installed office, one note & visio last night. irritated, a little. one note and visio both rejected my technet serial #s. an issue i will have to resolve in the next month or so. and i have to find share point to install it.

now, on to getting the laser writer to work...

some progress

so far. vista is installed.

got the driver installed for the sound. and i've got sound. but i still can't get the plusdeck to work. couple things to try before i start seeking tech support with the manufacturer. i really miss being able to listen to my cassttes when i'm working. when i use a headset, i can tell something is trying to work, anyway.

discovered also, that it didn't simply wipe the drive when it installed. all the apps folders are still there, be interesting to see whether they actually need to be reinstalled...

taking my time. going to get this system going strong within a few days. i hope
